Say goodbye to store-bought dough and hello to homemade perfection!

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (divided into two 1/2 cups)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil (divided)

Instructions:

Step 1: Proof the Yeast

In the bowl of a stand mixer (or a large mixing bowl), combine the sugar, 1/2 cup of warm water, and the active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy. This activates the yeast and ensures a fluffy, airy dough.

Step 2: Mix the Dough

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt, and optional Italian seasoning. Add this dry mixture to the yeast mixture, followed by 3 tablespoons of olive oil and the remaining 1/2 cup of warm water. Using a dough hook attachment, mix on low speed for 1 minute, then increase to medium-high for 5 minutes until the dough is elastic and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

Step 3: Let the Dough Rise

Lightly oil a heatproof bowl with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Place the dough inside and turn it to coat with oil. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.

Step 4: Prepare for Use

Lightly flour your work surface and rolling pin. Gently knead the dough by folding it in half and pressing it down with the heels of your hands, repeating a few times. Then roll or stretch the dough to your desired size and thickness for pizza, dinner rolls, or other recipes.

Step 5: To Make Pizza

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Grease your pizza pan or sprinkle with cornmeal for a crisp base. Stretch the dough into a 12-inch round and top with your favorite pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden and bubbly.

Tips for Best Results:

  • Warm water: Keep it between 105°F and 115°F to activate the yeast.
  • Flavor boost: Add garlic powder or grated Parmesan to the flour for extra flavor.
  • Double the batch: This dough freezes well! Freeze in a ball shape for up to 3 months.

How to Use This Dough:

  • Pizza Crust: Classic base for homemade pizza nights.
  • Dinner Rolls: Shape into balls, let rise, and bake until golden.
  • Doughnuts: Shape, fry, and coat in sugar or glaze.
